Young Seychellois Marine Scientist, Ameer Ebrahim has been appointed Chief Science Advisor with the James Michel Foundation. Ebrahim, who is a current PhD candidate with the University of Queensland, Australia also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Science and an Honours Degree in Marine Ecology from Griffith University, Australia. 

He is tasked with furthering the Foundation’s efforts to establish key international links within the realm of the Blue Economy, and to promote and facilitate scientific research endeavours in the Seychelles. 

Ebrahim has carried out extensive research around the inner islands of the Seychelles archipelago since 2015, and has been involved in the recent sea cucumber project (SEACUSEY) as Project Manager. Prior to this, he worked alongside leading Marine Scientists in Australia in a shark tagging programme, and conducted research in the sustainability of Blue Carbon habitats with the Australian Rivers Institute and the Gold Coast City Council. 

He is a published scientific author, with several scientific papers on his research conducted in Seychelles due to be published later this year. He has been invited to present his recent research at the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association symposium in Mauritius in July this year.  Ebrahim was nominated as one of the 28 Young People Making a Difference in Seychelles in 2015, and served briefly as a member of Global Shapers.
